맨체스터 대학교의 문장은 본교의 전신인 [[맨체스터 과학기술대학교]]와 맨체스터 빅토리아 대학교의 각 문장을 합친 것이다. 왕관 위에서 횃불을 들고 있는 사자와 벌 문양은 옛 맨체스터 과학기술대학교의 문장에서, 하늘색 바탕에 성벽 위로 태양이 떠오르는 방패는 옛 맨체스터 빅토리아 대학교의 문장에서 따온 것이다. 문장 밑에는 본교의 모토가 쓰여 있다.
