1. 개요[편집]

맨체스터 과학기술대학교는 영국 잉글랜드 맨체스터에 1824년부터 2004년까지 존재했던 명문 이공계 중심 대학교였다. University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology의 앞글자를 딴 UMIST라는 이름으로도 널리 알려졌다.

1824년에 설립된 기계공 교육원(Mechanics' Institute)을 기점으로 역사가 시작되었고, 이후 2004년에 맨체스터 빅토리아 대학교와 통합되어 맨체스터 대학교로 새로이 탄생했다.

2. 연혁[편집]

1824년 : 기계공 교육원(Mechanics' Institute) 설립.
1918년 : 맨체스터 시립기술칼리지(Manchester Municipal College of Technology)로 교명 변경.
1955년 : 왕립 헌장을 수여 받음. 맨체스터 과학기술칼리지(Manchester College of Science and Technology)로 교명 변경.
1966년 : 프랭크 모튼(Frank Morton)에 의해 맨체스터 과학기술대학교(University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology)로 교명 변경.
2004년 : 맨체스터 빅토리아 대학교와 함께 맨체스터 대학교로 통합.
